Work experince week - May 2018
Rachel McCreath from Dalry Secondary School recently took part in her work experience week at United Bricks. Throughout the week, Rachel learned how we operate and even got to make her own unique printed minifigures!
Rachel learned a variety of different skills including operating specialist UV printers, designing in a graphic design software and editing photos to name a few. Rachel thoroughly enjoyed working with us and had this to say.
"I found working here to be very fun and interesting. My favourite part of the week was using Illustrator to design my own LEGO minifigures. I was able to develop my skills further in visual designing as well as learning new skills that I can use later in my working life."
The image above shows Rachel's bespoke minifigure she made. As she was a massive fan of the book series, Percy Jackson, she wanted to recreate him in LEGO. She started my designing it in Illustrator, printing it on our specilist UV printer and finally using Photoshop to create an amazing visual promo picture. To further develop her skills, she took another favoruite character of hers, Newt Scamander from Fantastic Beasts, and once again designed and printed her very own LEGO verison of him!
This was also the first work experience placement for teacher Mikaela who had this to say, "Rachel quickly took to the design Adobe suite that we use and was able to work both idependtly and confidently. I look forward to offering this unique placement again and teaching more young people in the near future."
We were thrilled to be able to offer this unique work placement to Dumfries and Galloway and look forward to offering it to more young people in the future.
